Legal Issues: Legal Forms

. . . Sign On The Dotted Line (Well, Actually Before You Do)

Legal forms are necessary for just about every walk of life these days. People just don’t trust the good old fashioned handshake anymore. It doesn’t matter whether you’re buying a house, getting married or filing for bankruptcy . . .  there are legal forms which need to be completed in order to keep everything legal and above board.

For many people the idea of filling out forms comes as a close second to poking their eyes with a sharpened stick, but there are much simpler and easier ways of getting access to, and filling out the details of legal forms these days than in the days of old when you had to fill out every little detail by hand . . . name, date of birth, address, social security number, inside leg measurement . . .

Online legal forms have made the whole process easier and more user-friendly. Very often you can duplicate the information from one part of the legal form straight to another, just fill out a few blanks, print out the document, sign on the dotted line and hey presto, you have a legally binding document in your hand, at a fraction of the price you used to pay your attorney or lawyer to get for you.

Legal forms online are not, however, without their potential problems. The legal requisites of each form is not always exactly the same from state to state, so you might think that you have the correct legal form and everything right and up to date . . .  but it’s definitely worth checking it out with a lawyer or legal advisor to prevent any nasty surprises further down the line.

Various states such as California provide online lists of state legal forms. These forms can range from adoption to incorporation of a new business to even very specific legal issues such as driving while intoxicated.
